MA Social Work
Eligibility Details
Admission to the Department of Social Work is open to candidates who meet the eligibility criteria in accordance with academic qualifications listed below:
a) Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 year) in any discipline with minimum 55% marks from a recognized university.
b) Candidates with B.A. (Honours) Social Work with minimum 50% marks from a recognized University.
c) Candidates appearing in the final year examination of the Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply subject to the qualifications listed above.They must submit a copy of their result latest by 31st August of the admission year failing which the offer of admission shall stand cancelled.
Reservations
The minimum eligibility criterion for different reserved communities will be as follows :
Foreign Nationals
Foreign students seeking admission to the course are required to apply directly to the Foreign Students’ Advisor, Foreign Students’ Registry, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Delhi 110007.The University will confirm the admission of foreign students after they clear the medical test within a
month of their admission. A medical certificate to this effect must be submitted to the Department office.
Total Break Up
Total Seats: 85; Unreserved: 43 ; Scheduled Caste: 13 ; Scheduled Tribe:13; OBC: 23
As per university rules, the seats for PH, CW and Deputed/sponsored categories will be supernumerary.
i . PWD category : 3% of the total intake
ii. CW category : 5% of total intake
iii. Foreign Nationals : 5% of the total intake
iv. Sports / ECA : 5% of the total intake
v. Sponsored / Deputed Category : Not more than 5 seats

- Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe : Pass in the degree examinations
- Non Creamy Layer OBC : 49.5% in the degree examinations (55% less 10% of 55%).
- Deputed/Sponsored category( for not more than five candidates deputed by the Government and voluntary welfare institutions /organizations) : 55% marks in the degree examinations and at least five years of paid work experience in the field of welfare / development out of which atleast two years should be in the agency / department / organization sponsoring the candidate.Candidates seeking admission under the Deputed / Sponsored category shall be exempt from the Written Test and GD. They shall however have to appear for the Interview.
- Persons With Disability (PWD) candidates with minimum 40% disability : 50% in the degree examinations.
- Sports/ECA Candidates and Children / Widows of the eligible Armed Forces Personnel will also have reservations.

Admission Procedure
All eligible candidates (except Foreign / Sponsored / Deputed) will have to take an admission test conducted by the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi which shall be held in the North Campus, University of Delhi. Candidates who qualify the written test and Foreign / Sponsored / Deputed Candidates will have to appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Admission Test
The medium of examination is English.The test paper is designed to assess the aptitude of the candidate to work as human service professional.There is no prescribed syllabus or format for the admission test. The following broad areas are however,included in the written test: Analytical ability, written communication skills and language comprehension; and Awareness and comprehension of contemporary social-political and economic realities. Group Discussion and Interview
Only the first 340 candidates (four times in proportion to number of seats for different categories) from the merit list of written test shall be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.The candidates are required to secure a minimum of 40% marks in the GD and Personal Interview (combined) in order to be eligible to be included in the merit list. However, if,the adequate number of candidates are not securing qualifying marks the admission committee may take appropriate decision in this regard. Dates: Second and Third Weeks of March; |
Merit List
The merit list will be prepared category wise after adding marks obtained in the Written Test (60 marks), Group Discussion (15 marks) and Personal Interview (25 marks). If there are more than two candidates at last point of merit list, the name of all such candidates shall be included. Dates: Third Week of March; Admissions from First to Second Week of July .Classes by last week of July |

M Phil Social Work
Eligibility
Any person who has obtained M.A. (Social Work) degree from any recognized university of India or abroad with 55% or more marks or equivalent grade shall be eligible to apply for admission to M. Phil. Social Work. Candidates awaiting their result of final year examination can also apply.

Admission Bulletin along with application forms shall be available from first week of July and may be obtained from the Department of Social Work against a cash payment. Last date for receipt of completed applications at the Department by hand or by post will be last week of July (For further information, please contact 011-27667881 or 27662620 or E-mail at [email protected]. The admission Test will be held by first week of August, only at Department of Social Work, Delhi University.
Any person who has obtained M.A. (Social Work) degree from any recognized university of India or abroad with 55% or more marks or equivalent grade shall be eligible to apply for admission to M. Phil. Social Work. Candidates awaiting their result of final year examination can also apply.
Seats and Selection Process
- The maximum enrolment in the M.Phil.Programme shall be 20 students.
- All the candidates satisfying the minimum requirements need to pass in the Written Test and Panel Interview separately. Marks for the interview and written test are 100 each, and a candidate must obtain a minimum of 50% marks in each.
- Reservation would be as per University rules
